Farm animals are allowed to marry?
Um, well. Not with benefit of clergy. I suppose those are civil unions. Farm animals do, however, have the right to better housing. Rights are finite, as you know. Gay marriage rights went to pay for bigger cages for pigs and chickens.
Amazing that the African-American turnout is in part to blame for the overwhelming passage of the bill. Of course the African American community is known to be extremely Christian. It's ironic that a a group which has fought long and hard for their own civil rights and equality had no problem stripping another group of theirs. Go figure?
Well, I was a big proponent of Prop 2; it doesn't go nearly far enough, but it's a good first step, and I'm frankly quite surprised it passed. However, Oprah did a show on it, which I'm guessing helped push it along quite a bit. I guess she should have done a show on Prop 8 as well...
I'm all for the better treatment of animals (until they are killed and I can consume their seared flesh and let some of their bodily juices dribble down my chin) but I did find the situation ironic.
