Ugly Olympic Medals

I think the organizers of the Vancouver Winter Olympics would really have had to work pretty hard to find lousier Olympic medals than these.

On some reflection, I must eat those words. The Vancouver medals are not nearly as bad as those from Turin, which look like CDs.

Couldn't agree more. Just hate the damn things.

I'm not an Olympics supporter but I think the design of the medals is right. They involved a First Nations artist, each medal will be unique, although, given the weight, each gold medal will have $16,000 wirth of gold in it. I'm not sure the para games medals should be a diferent shape though.

Why should they be made by a First Nations artist? Sure, the designs of the West Coast aboriginal people tend to be pretty cool, but the Olympics themselves should be commemorated on the medals. It's not a souvenir of BC, it's an Olympic medal.

Because the pretense of inclusion is better than the reality of absolute exclusion.

Tee hee hee. Win enough of them and you can take them home in a giant Pringles chips container.

They look like a piece of plastic that's been held over a fire and warped. Truly one of the most odd looking medals I've ever seen.

Hopefully, there will be min. standards set in place after these are given out.
